“My beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV)
A friend of mine lives on a century farm. Her family has owned and operated this farm for over a hundred years. There is a large oak tree in her yard that has weathered many storms. Its trunk is as wide as a car. The gnarled and knotted wood protects her house from the north winds. The tall branches provide shelter for birds and squirrels. That big oak stands firm like a sentry guarding that century farm.
“Who stands firm? Only the one for whom the final standard is not his reason, his principles, his conscience, his freedom, his virtue, but who is ready to sacrifice all these, when in faith and sole allegiance to God he is called to obedient and responsible action: the responsible person, whose life will be nothing but an answer to God's question and call.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)
I would like to be steadfast like an old oak tree--standing firm, unwavering in my commitments and convictions. Even when it makes no sense, I want to be obedient to God’s call. Motivated by sacred love and dedication to serve the Lord, I hope to be resolute in faith--through persecution, abuse, ridicule, exploitation, and uncertainty--weathering the storms of life.
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12 ESV)
Lord, enable me to grow in spiritual strength and maturity by persevering during trials. Do not let anything divert me from Your purpose for me. Rooted in Christ, make me resilient and steadfast in love.

Like the visual of the oak, it’s been there a long time, even better with age!
Reminds me of this from Ps 92: like the flourishing, even in old age, still full of sap!
“The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord, they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bring forth fruit in old age, they are ever full of sap and green”
Yes, Lord Jesus and Amen!
