Theatrical Props
“Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].” (Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP)
Have you ever wondered how the background sets in theater shows can be changed so quickly? Most of the props that appear massive are made of styrofoam. What looks like a large, granite pillar may only weigh a few pounds. Actors learn not to lean on any of the props, or else they and the prop will fall down.
Many of the things that we rely on in this world are as unreliable as theatrical props. We depend on our own resources--intelligence, money, jobs, relationships, technology, devices, health, skills, etc. These things may appear solid, but they aren’t.
For decades, I used to trust my own judgment. I thought that I could figure things out for myself. I put my confidence in human character, self-reliance, and man-made systems. Little did I know that I was just an actor on a stage surrounded by flimsy props. I leaned on things that could not bear the weight of reality, until everything came crashing down.
“Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.” (Psalm 37:5-6 NLT)
Commit to the Lord--not partially, but fully. Do not lean on your own understanding. Trust Jesus, even when it doesn’t make any sense to you. Surrender all aspects of your life, including your desire for justice. Depend on the Lord to vindicate you. Acknowledge that God is in control. Put all your confidence in Him. Allow Him to direct your journey.
“For God alone my soul waits in silence; From Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my defense and my strong tower; I will not be shaken or disheartened.” (Psalm 62:1-2 AMP)
